॥ ORIGINAL SANSKRIT SHLOKA ॥
Arthashastra 8.4

आपदः सम्भविष्यन्ति, तासां प्रतिकारं चिन्तयेत्।
न भयेन कार्यं हीयते, विचारेण सिद्ध्यति॥

Transliteration (IAST)
Āpadaḥ sambhaviṣyanti, tāsāṃ pratikāraṃ cintayet.
Na bhayena kāryaṃ hīyate, vicāreṇa siddhyati.

English Meaning & Translation
Calamities will arise; one should contemplate their remedies.
Work is not diminished by fear but accomplished through reasoning.
The wise leader does not fear risk — he maps it, weighs it, and manages it with clear eyes.
💼 Business Lesson
Build a formal risk register covering five categories: operational, supply chain, quality, financial, and market risks. For each, assess probability, impact, and current mitigation — then act on highest-priority items.
👑 Leader Lesson
The difference between a risk-aware leader and a risk-blind one becomes visible only in a crisis. The former responds with confidence because scenarios were pre-thought. The latter reacts with confusion and cost.
⚙ Manufacturing Lesson
Quality failures, single-source raw material dependency, and regulatory non-compliance are the three most common manufacturing risks that destroy years of reputation in a single incident. Map them first.
📜 APPLICATION TO MODERN INDUSTRY

Chanakya laid out frameworks for assessing the probability and consequences of different threats. Risk was not an obstacle to action — it was information.

✔ ACTION CHECKLIST
Create a formal risk register with named owners
Conduct a mock crisis simulation annually
Diversify raw material supplier base
Build working capital reserves sized to risk profile
Review risk register at every quarterly leadership meeting
