कीर्तिः मृत्योः परं तिष्ठति॥

Kīrtiḥ śarīrāt pūrvaṃ jāyate.
Kīrtiḥ mṛtyoḥ paraṃ tiṣṭhati.

English Meaning & Translation
Reputation is born before the body arrives.
Reputation endures beyond death.
A kingdom's reputation travels faster than its army. It is the first thing that wins — and the last thing that can be rebuilt.
💼 Business Lesson
In industrial markets, reputation is built on quality consistency, delivery reliability, and honest communication — especially when delivering bad news. A supplier who misses a delivery and communicates proactively is respected. One who is silent is not forgiven.
👑 Leader Lesson
The leader's personal reputation and the organisation's institutional reputation are inseparable at the top. Every visible leadership behaviour — how you handle a failure, how you treat a customer complaint, how you respond to a quality crisis — is reputation-defining.
⚙ Manufacturing Lesson
A seamless tube's reputation in critical applications — heat exchangers, boilers, refineries — is built one customer at a time, over years of zero-defect delivery. It is destroyed in a single field failure. Guard it with every production decision.
📜 APPLICATION TO MODERN INDUSTRY

Chanakya understood that a ruler's reputation — for fairness, strength, reliability, and honesty — was a strategic asset of measurable value. A strong reputation attracted allies, deterred aggression, and facilitated commerce without further effort.

❓ REFLECTION QUESTIONS

"Your reputation is your organisation's most valuable currency. Guard it as fiercely as you guard your balance sheet."
