॥ ORIGINAL SANSKRIT SHLOKA ॥
Chanakya Niti 11.7

क्रोधो वैवस्वतो राजा, तृष्णा वैतरणी नदी।
विद्या कामदुघा धेनुः॥

Transliteration (IAST)
Krodho vaivasvato rājā, tṛṣṇā vaitaraṇī nadī.
Vidyā kāmadughā dhenuḥ.

English Meaning & Translation
Anger is the king of death; desire is the river of torment.
Knowledge is the wish-fulfilling cow.
The ruler who is moved by anger punishes the wrong man. The one who is moved by wisdom punishes the right one.
💼 Business Lesson
Emotional intelligence — the capacity to recognise, understand, and manage your own emotions and those of others — is the single most important predictor of leadership effectiveness. It cannot be faked and cannot be delegated.
👑 Leader Lesson
The emotionally intelligent leader creates psychological safety — a working environment where people can raise problems, challenge assumptions, and admit mistakes without fear. This safety is the foundation of the honest information flow that great decisions require.
⚙ Manufacturing Lesson
In manufacturing, leaders who respond to quality failures with rage rather than curiosity create cultures where problems are hidden rather than reported. Hidden problems become customer failures. The leader's emotional response to bad news determines whether they receive bad news.
📜 APPLICATION TO MODERN INDUSTRY

Chanakya was deeply aware of the destructive potential of unmanaged emotion in leadership. He counselled rulers to develop the capacity to observe their emotional reactions and act from wisdom, not impulse.
